Refresh Property Solutions in collaboration with Phoenix Energy is excited to announce the installation of a domestic hybrid heat pump at a home in the Belfast area.

The installation of this hybrid heat pump is part of a wider trial that aims to measure effective system management and energy cost savings of hybrid home heating solutions in Northern Ireland.

The project comes as hybrid heat pumps grow in popularity among UK homeowners and will use real-time data to provide valuable insights into the cost-effective and sustainable operation of the system in a typical-sized NI home. The results of this trial will benefit existing and new natural gas users as Northern Ireland transitions towards a carbon-neutral future.

A hybrid heat pump is a low carbon heating solution that uses electricity to extract warmth from the air to heat the home and works seamlessly alongside a standard, high-efficiency gas boiler to provide instant hot water and boost heat in colder months. As well as reducing overall energy requirements in homes in the short-term, as gas networks develop renewable gas solutions such as biomethane, hybrid heating systems provide a future-proof solution for householders seeking a lower carbon, reliable heating system.

Josh Rowe, Technical Director at Refresh NI said:

“We are delighted to be a part of this heat pump trial and to help forge the way in enabling NI homeowners to make sustainable and future-proof home energy upgrades by installing a hybrid heating system. This trial is a significant step in achieving renewable energy targets and enabling our customers to make well-informed decisions when upgrading their home heating system in the future.”

Kailash Chada, Chief Executive Officer at Phoenix Energy added:

“It’s an exciting time in the energy sector. As the gas industry progresses its pathway to net zero through the introduction of renewable gas solutions such as biomethane, it’s also great to see new innovative customer solutions coming into the local marketplace. The Hybrid heating system offers households the best of both worlds – the opportunity to embrace the efficiency of a heat pump whilst retaining the reliability that a gas boiler provides across all seasons to meet the comfort levels that householders demand. We look forward to working with our supply chain partners in the coming months to make these systems widely available to both private and public sector homes.”
