Home Insulation FAQ’s

How often do I need to replace my home insulation?

Loft insulation loses its effectiveness as it ages. Therefore, insulation should be replaced after 15 years to ensure it is still fully functioning.

Generally, you do not need to replace cavity wall insulation. There is no reason for the insulation to degrade. However, if property alterations are carried out, the insulation may need to be topped up or replaced.

Can I get my home insulated for free?

If you are a homeowner in Northern Ireland you could be eliagble for free insulation as part of the NISEP scheme. This government grant includes loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, LED lightbulds and a stone stream showerhead.

How does insulation work?

Insulation works by reducing the amount of heat lost from your home, through your walls and roof. Therefore, it helps reduce the amount of fuel you depend on to heat your home, ultimately saving you money on your energy bills.

How do I know if my insulation needs to be replaced?

If your loft is damp or has a leak, you will need to replace any insulation affected, as most types of wool insulation become immediately ineffective when it comes into contact with dampness.

It is recommended that loft insulation be replaced after 15 years to ensure it is fully effective.

Is it really beneficial to insulate your home?

There are many, many benefits of insulating your home, including:

1. Increase the comfort of your home.

Adequate insulation helps stop heat from escaping through your walls and roof, helping to keep your home warmer for longer.

2. Reduce your impact on the environment.

Home insulation helps reduce the amount of energy you depend on to heat your home. Therefore reducing your overall energy consumption and carbon footprint.

3. Lower energy bills.

Home insulation keeps the heat inside your home, meaning you don’t need as much fuel to heat your home. Insulating your home will pay for itself with the amount of savings you will make on your energy bills.
