What is the Clean Heat Market Mechanism?

The Clean Heat Market Mechanism is a framework created by the UK government to encourage the use of low-carbon heat systems, like heat pumps, in residential properties. This initiative aims to decrease the carbon emissions of homes by reducing their dependence on fossil fuels for heating and hot water. For more information about the CHMM, you can visit: https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/clean-heat-market-mechanism.

What Does It Mean For Installers & Homeowners?

The Clean Heat Market Mechanism has introduced financial penalties for boiler manufacturers that don’t meet a challenging quota of heat pump sales in relation to gas boiler sales. This includes major manufacturers such as Worcester Bosch, Ideal, and Baxi. Consequently, these manufacturers have increased their prices for installers as they are unable to bear the cost of these penalties. Unfortunately, as a small business with already competitive prices, we cannot absorb this additional cost and have no alternative but to adjust our boiler prices. Starting from January 2024, onwards, our new price for gas boiler replacements will now begin from £1,900.
