Free home insulation grants are now available in Northern Ireland to help homeowners upgrade their homes and make them more energy-efficient.

Home insulation is a great first step in enhancing your homes energy efficiency – and these grants are here to help NI homeowners on the journey to net zero. As part of the Northern Ireland Sustainable Energy Programme (NISEP), these home insulation grants help to facilitate the great energy and cost saving benefits of a well-insulated home. In fact, an average semi-detached home in Northern Ireland could save up to £300 per year on energy bills by installing adequate loft and cavity wall insulation.

Loft or roof-space insulation is a simple and effective way to reduce heat loss in your home. This works by having wool insulation laid over your attic floor, where air pockets trap heat and keep heat in your home, reducing your energy bills by up to 20%.

Cavity wall insulation involves filling the gap or cavity between the inner and outer walls of your home with insulation materials. This improves thermal performance by trapping heat that would otherwise escape through your walls.

What Grants Are Available?

Fully Funded Home Insulation

This home insulation grant covers 100% of the cost of loft and/or cavity wall insulation, plus LED light bulbs and a stone stream shower head. To qualify for this grant you must be an NI homeowner, with a single income of less than £28,000 or a total household income of less than £40,000.

Insulation Cashback Scheme

This grant covers 1/3 of the cost of loft and/or cavity wall insulation, plus free LED lightbulbs and a stone stream shower head. This grant is open to all NI homeowners, regardless of annual household income.
